Dame Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991), British ballerina, she is widely regarded as one of the greatest classical ballet dancers of all time. She spent her entire career as a dancer with the Royal Ballet of London, eventually being appointed for many years Prima ballerina Assoluta of the Company. In 1934 she joined the Sadler's Wells Ballet School, and in the same year she made her debut as a soloist. She became prima ballerina of the Vic-Wells Ballet in 1935, she gained a reputation for expressive acting and versatility. She was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1956.
