Fernandez, Oscar Lorenzo

Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez(1897-1949), Brazilian composer, studied at the Instituo nacional de Musica, he founded the Conservatorio Braziliero de Musica in Rio de Janeiro, which he directed until his death. He composed opera, ballet music, 2 symphonies and others. His Malazarte(1933) may be considered the first successful Brazilian national opera. He was the composer in Brazil next to Hector Villa-Lobos.
